About this training

This technical training offers a practical and theoretical foundation in applying Monte Carlo simulation techniques to optical wireless communication (OWC) systems, with a focus on MATLAB-based implementations. Monte Carlo methods are powerful tools used to evaluate the performance of OWC systems under random effects such as turbulence, pointing error, scattering, and atmospheric or underwater variability. Participants will learn how to model system impairments, generate random processes, and evaluate key performance metrics such as bit error rate (BER), quantum bit error rate (QBER), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and secret key rate (SKR). The training includes guided coding sessions to build reusable simulation frameworks, making it ideal for both research and industrial prototyping.

What you will learn

* Basics of Monte Carlo simulation techniques and random process generation * Application of Monte Carlo methods to atmospheric and underwater OWC channels * Modeling of turbulence, pointing error, and scattering effects * Simulation of BER, QBER, SKR, and outage probability metrics * MATLAB implementation of OWC systems and statistical models * Optimization and convergence analysis in simulations * Reusable code structures for FSO, UWOC, and QKD systems * Real-world case studies and validation approaches

Who it's for

* Engineers and researchers working in optical wireless communications * Professionals developing OWC, QKD, or underwater optical systems * Graduate students seeking hands-on simulation experience * Developers using MATLAB for optical channel modeling or system evaluation
