NYQORA

A virtual laboratory for communications, optics and photonics

Coming soon to the App Store and Google Play

A SCOPT Inc. application

NYQORA turns your phone or tablet into a bench: 105 laboratories that you predict, run, measure and report — for students, lecturers and researchers in communications, optics and photonics.

Every laboratory runs entirely on your device. Commit to an answer, set the parameters, read real instruments, compare theory with simulation, and hand in a report.

Every laboratory works the same way

Five steps, the same in all 105 laboratories, so the method carries from one topic to the next.

1 Predict

Commit to an answer before the run. It is locked when you press Run, so the comparison is honest.

2 Run

Set the parameters with sliders or typed values and read real instruments — oscilloscope, spectrum analyser, network analyser, optical power meter and more.

3 Understand

A block diagram of the system as a textbook draws it, how the bench is wired, and the formulas typeset with every symbol explained.

4 Measure

Fill the measurement table and compare theory with simulation. Every measured reading comes with its 95 per cent interval.

5 Report

A PDF lab report with your predictions, results, answers and a run fingerprint, ready to hand in.

Nine collections

From signals and systems through to fiber-optic communication — a path across the whole field.

Signals and Systems

Sampling, the DFT, convolution, Fourier, Laplace and z transforms, FIR and IIR filter design, spectrograms, multirate, image filtering, speech.

Analog Communication

AM, DSB-SC, SSB, VSB, FM and PM, each as modulation and demodulation, the superheterodyne, the PLL, the Costas loop, FM stereo.

Digital Communication

PCM, TDM, delta modulation, line codes, eye diagrams, ASK, FSK, M-PSK and QAM with constellations, coding, Viterbi decoding, synchronisation.

Wireless Communication

Path loss, fading, Doppler, OFDM, equalisation, spread spectrum, multiple access, MIMO, channel estimation.

RF Systems

Spectrum analysis, amplifiers, noise figure, mixers, standing waves, Smith chart matching, S-parameters, couplers, microwave filters, TDR, waveguides.

Antennas and Propagation

Radiation patterns, gain, Yagi and helix, the microstrip patch.

Optics

Lenses, Gaussian beams, slits and gratings, Fourier optics, Michelson and Fabry-Perot interferometers, polarisation.

Photonic Devices

Lasers, LEDs, photodiodes, avalanche photodiodes, the Mach-Zehnder modulator.

Fiber-Optic Communication

Modes, numerical aperture, bend loss, dispersion, rise-time and power budgets, WDM, EDFA, Bragg gratings.

Free and Pro

19 laboratories are free, complete with their reports: every introductory one, the core of a first communications course, and at least one in every collection.

NYQORA Pro is one purchase with no subscription. It opens all 105 laboratories and adds export of any run as CSV, Python or MATLAB.

Private by design

No account. No advertising. No analytics. Every laboratory runs on your device, offline. The only network request is the anonymous check for NYQORA Pro, and it carries nothing that identifies you.

Your predictions, notebook and reports stay on your device. Read the full privacy policy.
